Whale watching
Cape verde are one of the two breeding sites in the North Atlantic for the humpback whales in their seasonal migration route between the high-latitude feeding areas to the low latitude breeding grounds. Between mid March to mid May you can see these acrobatic animals and hear their singing on the West and South West coast of Boavista

The island offers excellent opportunities to observe an interesting variety of birdlife, as more than 20 native species breed here. Additionally, a few tens of migratory species can be spotted between late September and May. You can visit wetlands in search of waders, dune fields and inland planes to see steppe birds and coastal cliffs for red bill tropicbirds.

Cape vert is the third largest reserve in the world for the number of nesting turtles housed, just after Oman and the southeastern coast of the United States. Turtle watching is conducted at night from July to mid-October, being August the peak of the nest season

In Sal Rei, at Estoril Beach & Praia Carlota there are numerous surf clubs where equipment can be rented or watersports can be learned. For advanced riders, there are many spots around the island accessible by pickup truck, offering a variety of conditions to choose from.

Music
Cape Verde is known internationally for morna, a form of folk music usually sung in the Cape Verdean Creole, accompanied by guitar and cavaquinho.
Morna is by far the most popular genre of Cape Verdean music, believed to have originated on Boa Vista and it has produced an international superstar in Cesária Évora.
In addition to morna, Boa Vista boasts a lively repertoire of other musical styles, including "coladeira" and "funaná," also a mix of jazz, reggae and blues, all reflect the island's cosmopolitan character.
Numerous restaurants offer wonderful live music, typically during dinner hours.
